“Separation of street levels where heavily travelled arteries cross is one method proposed in the official city plan to keep traffic moving freely. One of the sites is Grand and Lindell boulevards, illustrated here. The view is west in Lindell, past “College” or St. Francis Xavier Church (left) and Melbourne Hotel (right). City engineers have concluded that Grand’s level could stay unchanged, with a four-lane underpass for Lindell on easy grades. There would be space for side connections between Lindell and Grand at each corner.”

  1. This would be fantastic and would have kept the city knit together if built as depicted at FPA/Grand. Instead, it was built for maximum speed – very long ramps and more priority space for fast moving cars.
