Streets

  • The St. Louis Beacon profiles the City to River group calling them a “new voice” in the riverfront to downtown connections debate. (St. Louis Beacon)
  • The City to River group’s proposal to remove I-70 from downtown is not noteworthy in and of itself, according to The Urbanophile; rather it is the fact that calls for highway removal have become so commonplace that is reason to celebrate. (The Urbanophile)
  • Missouri State Senator Ryan McKenna would like to rename the city of St. Louis portion of I-70 back to Mark Twain Highway, its original namesake. McKenna’s very first piece of legislation as a freshman in the Missouri State House was to change the name of the highway in honor of Mark McGwire. (Political Fix)
  • Archaeologists are busy digging up remnants of St. Louis’ early and ancient history ahead of construction for the new Mississippi River Bridge. (STLtoday.com)
  • The new River City Casino requested that a portion of Carondelet Blvd and Weber Rd be renamed River City Casino Blvd to the chagrin of local residents. The St. Louis County Council compromised by removing the word “Casino” from the name. (STLtoday.com)

Public transit

  • Metro explains why they invest in public art for the transit system in response to criticism that it’s wasteful spending. Short answer: it’s required as a condition of federal funding. (NextStop STL)
  • The board of East-West Gateway approved the Moving Transit Forward long-range transit plan developed by Metro. (NextStop STL)
